President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he was surprised to learn this morning through the newspaper Reforma that Grupo México sued the federal government for the early cancelation of a contract with the company that was in charge of the construction of section five of the Maya Train, a project that is now in the hands of the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).
During the morning press conference, the president was questioned about the alleged “million-dollar demand,” but López Obrador expressed surprise upon realizing this news, as he assured that the owner of Grupo México had agreed to reach an agreement.
The head of the executive insisted that a deal would be sought where the parties agreed.
On Thursday, January 25, the company assured that it is carrying out all the actions required by Fonatur to formalize the closing of the contract and proceed with conciliation and payment for the work carried out.
Likewise, he highlighted that the consortium has accepted the government’s proposal that the settlement derive from the analysis and conciliation that takes place with military engineers.
