After the December season, construction work on the Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor resumed on the section of 60th Street, a project that Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal supervised this day to soon contribute to renew the image of the Historic Center of the capital and thereby detonate tourism and the economy of the area.

After a pause in the work due to an agreement with merchants in the area so that sales would not be affected during the Christmas season, Vila Dosal covered the section of the entire work that includes the Remate del Paseo de Montejo, passing through Santa Ana Park and then on Calle 60, heading south to the Government Palace, and the work is being carried out according to schedule.

Accompanied by the general director of the Institute for the Construction and Conservation of Public Works in Yucatán (Inccopy), Virgilio Crespo Méndez, Vila Dosal also spoke with merchants and tourist servers about the project, who recognized his vision to continue attracting more tourism.

At the Arte Maya boutique, when speaking with the Governor, salesperson Paola Sánchez shared that the Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor will be a great opportunity to boost their sales and attract more customers, which will greatly benefit their business.

Later, at the Ya’ax Ché store, tourism service provider, Agustín Palma, thanked the Governor for this project, which “will benefit the area, in addition to contributing to improving the image of Downtown Mérida, which already was needed because the city has to evolve to improve.

“The best thing is that they listened to us and respected the agreement to stop work for the December season and that helped a lot in our sales; so now it is important that we also have patience because this is part of a change that will be for the better in the future,” the typical clothing seller told the Governor.

Regarding the work, the rehabilitation of streets was carried out and the sidewalks will also be rehabilitated, the urban image will be improved, bollards will be placed, and the installation of lighting, wiring, and traffic lights, among other tasks.

It is worth remembering that, last November, the first stage of the Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor on 47th Street was delivered by the Mérida City Council, which will connect, once ready, with the one on 60th Street and the Parque de “La Plancha”, which will allow us to offer all visitors a large corridor with recreational options for Yucatecans and tourists.

The Great Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor in the Historic Center is a work that will connect the Plaza Grande, the Parque de Santa Lucía, Santa Ana, and the Great Park of “La Plancha”, in a safe, accessible and sustainable way for everyone.

The State Government is in charge of the section that starts from 60th Street, on the corner of the Plaza Grande, to the Santa Ana Park and a further section on 47th, between 60th and 56th, including the Remate de Paseo roundabout. of Montejo, for which 174.3 million pesos are invested.

This project is contemplated in the Mérida 2050 Declaration and, with it, a total of 1,750 linear meters will be improved, with street widening, new sidewalks, bicycle lanes, low-height poles, podotactiles for people with visual disabilities, and easy access and movement for those who have a motor disability.

Also, spaces for picking up and dropping off passengers were considered, as well as for loading and unloading merchandise, and the installation of tables outside the businesses, which transforms urban mobility and, above all, boosts the economy of the businesses. of this area.

In this way, benefits will be generated such as use and benefit of the streets, as public spaces for tourists and residents; improvements to the identity and attractiveness of the area, and to multimodal circulation through the Historic Center, and strengthening aspects of accessibility, sustainability, equity and resolution of access for utility vehicles, taxis and public transportation.
