On the second day of his work agenda at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) taking place in Madrid, Spain, the Municipal President participated in strategic work meetings with businessmen and diplomats to strengthen the connection of the Municipality with the promotion circuits on an international level.
“On this second day of work, the Mérida City Council worked to finalize an agenda of activities and meetings focused on developing projects that generate an economic benefit for the sector, that strengthens the tourism industry and results in more jobs and more benefits for the communities. families,” he said.
In the first activity he carried out, Ruz Castro reaffirmed his commitment to the Guatemalan airline Tag Airlines by signing a commitment letter, which includes increasing the promotion of both destinations with a view to increasing the flow of tourists to both destinations.
This signing of intent was made between the owner of TAG Airlines, Marcela Toriello and Mayor Alejandro Ruz, with Carlos Medrano, commercial advisor of Guatemala in Spain, representing Harris Whitbeck, general director of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT), serving as an honorary witness. ).
At the conclusion of the signing of the document, the authorities present highlighted the importance of Mérida as an attractive destination for the company TAG Airlines, even more so now that the Guatemala-Mérida-Guatemala route is consolidating itself as the second with the best results so far in operation. .
Likewise, they indicated that, at the request of the tourism sector, they will resume the tourism promotion strategy of the Mayan world through tradeshows and tourist missions that will be held next February, where the tourism industry will meet with tour operators and travel agents to develop these actions. concrete.
The Mayor also met with Harris Whitbeck, general director of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT), who since taking office on January 15, reaffirmed his commitment to continue with projects in Mérida to promote the Mayan world focusing on the elements binding that exist between both destinations.
As the last point on his work agenda, Ruz Castro signed a letter of intent with Enjoy TRAVEL, one of the most important wholesalers in Spain to evaluate the possibilities of creating multi-destinations between Spanish cities, Havana and Mérida, therefore, they resumed this project that former Mayor Renán Barrera Concha started at FITUR 2023 to bring the Spanish and European market closer to our city.
