Learning and use of the Mayan language must be promoted among children attending public primary schools in Yucatán

In order to safeguard and promote the cultural richness of the Mayan language among students belonging to the primary level, the Secretary of Education of the State Government (Segey), through the Directorate of Indigenous Education, opens the call to participate in the facilitator selection process for the “Ko’one’ex Kanik Maaya” (let’s learn Maya) program.

This program, reported through a newsletter, has as its main objective to promote the learning and use of the Mayan language in general public primary school students, in which context the selected facilitators will play a crucial role in the transmission of linguistic and cultural knowledge, working directly with children during the school year.

According to the call, the aim is to recruit personnel committed to preserving the linguistic wealth of the region and willing to teach it in general public primary schools.

Those interested must have command of the Mayan language in oral and written form, and have mastery and ability to develop didactic and evaluation skills within the classrooms, as well as accredit the Mayan language exam.
