With the planting of 2,000 trees, the first phase of tree planting on 39th Street from the Peripheral Ring to “La Plancha” park concluded, actions promoted by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal to have a greener and more sustainable Yucatan, with modern mobility. and efficient, for the benefit of Yucatecan families.
These works carried out along the 5 kilometers of the section that goes on 39th Street of the Ie-Tram public transportation project, which crosses 9 neighborhoods in the area, are added to the more than 900 thousand trees planted through the strategy “Arborizing Yucatán” in 97 municipalities, which represents 2,774.05 treed hectares.
When giving details of the planting of these specimens, Erik Torres Burgos, head of the Natural Resources Administration department of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS), explained that first an organic fertilizer was placed so that it does not have a chemical effect, which will help the plant to become stronger and establish itself more easily, then daily watering will be carried out for the next few days and then periodically.
The official stressed that now we will have to wait for the planted specimens to have more biomass, to define if more species can fit or if this coverage is enough to reduce the temperatures in the area.
Torres Burgos called on the residents of the area to take ownership of the vegetation and collaborate with irrigation, adopt a tree, and during the dry season to water the new trees more frequently.
In a complementary manner and as part of the reforestation scheme, actions are contemplated aimed at protecting and, in specific cases, relocating the vegetation along the more than 129-kilometer route of the Ie-Tram project, the first 100% electric means of transportation in the southeast of the country and the only one of its kind in Latin America.
This vegetation management plan, which applies to all sections, includes a total of 13,820 trees throughout the project, of which more than 2,000 specimens of the species chacté, balché, Campanita, Anacahuita, chacsinkín, Pasak, Chaká, Ciricote, Cedro, among others, along the stretch that goes on 39th Street from the Periférico Ring to “La Plancha” Park.
To date, the initial goal established at the beginning of the current administration, which consisted of distributing and planting 600 thousand trees, has already been exceeded, which can translate into 150% progress concerning the original objective, thanks to joint work. that is carried out by the authorities in coordination with the civil society.
