The clothing sector in Yucatán begins the year with good expectations when it comes to marketing.

The National Chamber of the Clothing Industry (Canaive), Yucatán Delegation, begins the year with optimistic prospects in terms of sales but faces a critical challenge in the workplace, since it presents a deficit of around four thousand positions of work, as stated by its president, Jorge Moreno González.

He highlighted that the difficult times caused by the pandemic are behind us, however, the new challenges for the clothing industry now lie in ensuring sufficient designs and inventories to meet the growing demand, which is why it is urgent to fill the available vacancies in the industry.

The leader of Canaive Yucatán revealed that currently, around four thousand positions need to be filled to address this situation; The lack of labor has become an obstacle that the industry seeks to overcome to take advantage of growth opportunities.

“The expectation that we clothing manufacturers have for 2024 is too high and worrying, high because we know that sales are skyrocketing by more than 30 or 35 percent compared to the previous year,” he stated.

The leader revealed that at the moment they need to fill around four thousand positions to remedy the situation.

“However, it is worrying due to the lack of manpower, we are working to see how to counteract that part and one of the first steps is to go further into the State, and focus more on engineering in terms of automation, we are seeing the way to put more machines and the workers are not expert seamstresses,” he stressed.

Despite all this, Moreno González highlighted that the clothing industry in the state is starting the year with nearly 14,700 new jobs. “It is quite complex today to train textile workers, seamstresses, and embroiders; and training is fundamental for the creation of more job positions in this field,” he stated.

Finally, the manager considered that the deficit is due to various factors and they are already working to find mechanisms to correct it, but the diagnosis is that they opened many new businesses, with better salaries that have gone more towards this area.
