Once again, Cancún emerged as the destination with the highest number of international travelers in the entire country during 2023, with almost half of all foreign travelers by air entering national territory during the past year.

The final figure for 2023 released on Monday, Feb. 5th by the Ministry of Tourism shows that the Cancun International Airport captured 47.7 % of all international air travelers, that is, 10.42 million, compared to 21.8 million captured nationally.

Next in importance is the Mexico City International Airport with 4.2 million tourists, 1.8% more compared to 2022; and the Los Cabos airport with 2.3 million, that is, 6.2% more than what was observed during 2022.

Just last week, it was also announced that the Cancun air terminal captured 5.6 million travelers from the American Union between January and December 2023, the highest number in its history, exceeding the total volume captured by 170,000 travelers in 2022, when 5.4 million of these visitors were recorded.

41.4% of the 13.5 million visitors (5.5 million) came from The United States.

The growth is even greater in the Canadian market, of which 1.38 million travelers were recorded in Cancun during 2023, which represented 54% of all Canadians that visited Mexico in 2023.

Regarding Colombia, 735,175 tourists came to Mexico during 2023, of which 336,016 visited Cancun, which is, 45.7% of the national total.

However, this figure is not entirely positive, as it means a drop compared to 2022, when 417,129 Colombians were captured in Cancun, that is, 81,113 fewer travelers during 2023, which is equivalent to a drop of 19.4%.
