The National Guard reported the arrest of a person, at the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” International Airport of Mérida, for his alleged participation in the crime of human trafficking, in the form of the trafficking of minors, and they rescued a teenager.

In its official X account, the National Guard indicates that the capture was carried out in coordination with the National Migration Institute (INM), and the alleged criminal is a woman with by a minor and a false birth certificate.

According to preliminary reports, after arresting the child trafficker at the airport in Mérida, Yucatán, the authorities rescued a 12-year-old minor. The first investigations reveal that the minor would be transferred against his will to Monterrey, Nuevo León.

At the scene, the minor, of Honduran nationality, claimed not to know the person accompanying him and did not recognize the data on the birth certificate presented as his identification by the woman, which turned out to be apocryphal.

The alert was activated with the help of the staff of a commercial airline, who had detected suspicious attitudes in the air terminal.

This allowed the rapid intervention of the authorities in the last waiting room at the Mérida airport, where the woman was with the child, without having complied with the security protocols required when purchasing their boarding passes.

Thus, the detainee, when questioned, admitted that she did not know the child and confessed that she was taking the minor to Monterrey to give him to another person; and that he did it as an assignment that was asked of him.

In the statement, the National Guard indicates that during the security and surveillance tours at the facilities of the Mérida International Airport, elements of the corporation received a support request that they immediately responded to.

The woman was arrested for the probable crime of human trafficking, in the form of human trafficking.
