The Mexican Navy acting as Coast Guard reports that on Feb. 27th, personnel from the Fifteenth Naval Zone rescued three fishermen who were adrift at sea three nautical miles (approximately five kilometers) north of Cozumel, Quintana Roo.
This action was carried out after receiving a distress call at the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Cozumel, indicating that three male people of Mexican nationality were on board a small fishing vessel. named “ESMERALDA”, which was adrift due to a failure in its outboard motor, several miles north of Punta Norte.
Due to the above and to safeguard human life at sea, the immediate departure of a Defender-type vessel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Cozumel was ordered, which located the aforementioned fishing boat with its crew members on board and brought them back to safety on land.
It should be noted that the boat was towed to the dock of the aforementioned Naval Station, where the crew members were treated by Naval Health personnel who provided first aid, finding them stable, with signs of mild dehydration and heatstroke.
They were later received by the Harbor Master’s Office of Cozumel Island for the corresponding procedures.
