The Mérida City Council confirmed three people with minor injuries after the derailment of the Centenario Park train that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 9.

According to the report, at 3:20 p.m. the little train provided service when, while traveling through the area where the fair was previously located, one of the disabled access gates was open.

This caused the first and second cars to derail, indicates the City Hall press release.

The authorities and paramedic assigned to the Centenario went to the site of the accident, where they provided medical attention to three people who had minor injuries, for which they were transferred to a hospital.

This unit of the train will remain suspended to repair the damage caused by the fence, and it will also be guaranteed that it is in optimal condition before entering into operation.

“The Mérida City Council reiterates its commitment to providing comprehensive assistance to all those affected by this unfortunate incident,” the statement says.

“Timely follow-up is being given to both the injured and the families to provide them with all the necessary support to restore their health,” he adds.

The Mérida City Council indicated that the zoo has two train units, so there will be one unit that will continue to provide the service normally for citizens.

The authorities indicated that this unit will operate with all reinforced precautionary and security measures for the peace of mind of visiting families. This is the second derailment of the Centenario Park train in almost a year; The previous one occurred on Sunday, March 26, 2023, also resulting in three injuries.
