A foreign tourist was swept away by the sea in Playa del Carmen due to strong waves caused by bad weather caused by Cold Front number 32. The incident took place on Monday, February 5, when strong winds were registered in the area due to the cold front number 32 of the winter season.
On the afternoon of that day, a woman originally from Argentina entered the sea on Gaviota Beach, in the municipality of Playa del Carmen, aboard a paddle board, but in a few seconds she “disappeared” into the sea.
The other visitors on the coast realized that the woman was no longer in sight, so they notified the lifeguards.
The 37-year-old tourist decided to get into the sea at the least appropriate time because the strong and intense gusts of wind.
After entering the open sea, the woman realized she was in a dangerous situation so she notified the emergency number 911 since luckily she had her phone with her.
The tourist said that she was near Punta Esmeralda, after entering the sea at Gaviota Beach near CTM Avenue, after which two boats came out to her rescue.
However, due to the strong waves and winds that still affected the area, shortly after asking for help the sea dragged her to Mayakobá.
A helicopter took off and began searching for the woman; After locating her, they notified a Navy Secretary boat to rescue the tourist, who was taken to the mainland. It was reported that the foreign woman is healthy and safe.
