For the second consecutive year, the Pheisanes Robotics Club of the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (Mérida’s Metropolitan Technological University), obtained their pass for the VEX Robotics World Championship tournament, which will take place in Dallas, Texas, United States of America. from April 25 to May 3.
The young people are part of the Mexican delegation made up of 11 teams from the VEX U (University Category).
The above was achieved after its outstanding participation in the XV Robotics and STEM Skills Championship, held in Chihuahua last month and where two teams from the UTM participated. This event brought together representatives from different states of the Mexican Republic.
In this edition, the Yucatecan students won the Think Award, which recognizes the most effective and consistent use of coding techniques and programming design solutions to solve the challenge of the game, as well as skills in effective communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
Before the arrival of the official letter of passage to the international tournament, the rector of the UTM, Ms. Isabel Rodríguez Heredia expressed her joy and pride in the young people and teachers who make up the Robotics Club, which promotes the development of skills that strengthen their training and also encourage the participation of women in technological fields.
He recalled that the members belong to careers in the Industrial Division, directed by Engineer Carlos Enrique Espinosa Atoche, and are trained in the Collaborative Robotics Laboratory of the University, with the support and coordination of teachers Luis Ayil Andrés and Luis Mendoza Pinto.
He highlighted that to be part of this club, the students manage their own time, resources, and materials to build the robots and program them for their operation, all without neglecting their regular class schedule.
The VEX Robotics World Championship 2024, which will take place in Dallas, Texas, United States from April 25 to May 3, will bring together competitors in different categories from countries such as the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, China, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Philippines, Spain, and Ethiopia.
It should be noted that the UTM students obtained their pass to the Robotics World Cup for the first time in 2023. In this edition, nearly 100 universities from around the world competed and the Yucatecan students obtained number 44 in the international ranking. For this participation, the State Government, through the Secretariat of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (Siies), will support them with transportation and accommodations.
