Entrepreneurs from the Yucatan tourism sector will propose the creation of a “Maya Pass” for users of the Maya Train, which allows them preferential access to places of interest in the state.
Juan José Martín Pacheco, president of the Mexican Association of Hotels in Yucatán (AMHY), explained that this model, similar to that used in some European countries, will offer a single ticketing scheme valid for all active stations along the route, thus facilitating travelling for tourists.
«With the Maya Pass, a train ticket will allow users to travel flexibly for a certain period, boarding and alighting at different stations according to their preferences. From Quintana Roo to Valladolid, Chichén and Izamal, tourists will be able to explore the destinations at their own pace,” he explained.
The project, which we will present to the Mayan Train administration, aims to optimize the use of existing railway facilities and promote regional tourism. We seek to provide access to the scheme to the inhabitants of Yucatán and neighboring states of the Peninsula.
This initiative, of a state nature, seeks to start in Yucatán and then expand to other entities with Mayan Train stations.
The influx reports of the Mayan Train reveal that the Teya Mérida station was one of the most requested in the first months of operation of the means of transportation, with more than 13 thousand trips made.
