10 new units of the Ie-Tram, a 100% electric means of transportation and the only one of its kind in Latin America promoted by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal are already on their way to Mérida Yucatán, which will be used to cover the La Plancha-Faculty of Engineering route, Therefore, in a couple of weeks they will arrive in state territory to begin operation at the beginning of next April, reported the director of the State Transportation Agency (ATY), Rafael Hernández Kotasek.

During a supervision visit to the Irizar e-mobility plant, where these modern buses are manufactured, the state official confirmed the construction of the Ie-Tram and announced that the last 2 of these units for Yucatán, which will be used in the routes to Umán and Poxilá, will depart at the end of March to arrive approximately in the third week of April and begin operating next May.

The units are transferred from Spain via boat until they reach Mexican territory, and then they are transferred by land to the state.

The Ie-Trem is the first 100% electric public transport in the Southeast and the only one of this type in Latin America, so the future of mobility is already in the state, offering a first-class and quality service for locals and visitors.

The buses have an accessible design through 4 sliding doors, a low entrance for older adults and people with disabilities, signage of places reserved for them, seating arrangements and interior distribution, adaptable hallways, sound information, and, in terms of technology, collection electronic, among other amenities.

As part of their features, these vehicles have USB ports with fast cell phone charging, WiFi, a real-time geolocator to be able to see your route from the “Va-y-Ven” app, and 11 cameras that allow better driving and identify cyclists and pedestrians to avoid accidents.

These modern vehicles provide all the benefits of a tram, but with the flexibility of a bus; It can carry up to 105 passengers and generates 0 carbon emissions. It is 12 meters long; and features a modular battery system, designed to suit many needs; specific air conditioning for electric vehicles, and the latest in technology and safety.

The vehicles used have a range of 350 kilometers, already with the pantographs that will be installed, so removing an old bus and adding an electric one like this one is equivalent to planting 170 thousand trees in the next 10 years.

The Ie-tram will have 5 routes are:

  • Paseo 60-La Plancha-Teya
  • Improved-La Plancha-Kanasín
  • La Plancha-Faculty of Engineering
  • La Plancha-Umán
  • La Plancha-Poxilá, which will come into operation soon.

Recently, a delegation of businessmen from Sweden, Estonia, France, and Spain came to Yucatán to learn about the mobility system that is implemented in the state with means of transportation such as the Ie-Tram.
