At the beginning of the drought, the Mérida City Council has begun an awareness campaign for property owners to keep their patios, as well as their land, clean, to avoid fires, since if they do not do so they will pay a fine of up to 80 thousand pesos.
Ignacio Gutiérrez Solís, director of the municipality’s Government, commented that, once this dry season begins, they will be calling on the people of Merida to keep their properties in good condition, to avoid fires that could spread to other adjacent homes, thus generating greater damage.
“The City Hall must maintain constant monitoring, through municipal Civil Protection, but they also have it with the citizens through Ayuntatel on social media. These complaints have to do with vacant lots, although he highlighted that the inspector’s Municipal authorities are trained in case of a contingency,” Gonzalez Solis said.
Although they are prepared for this season, the municipal official called for people who have properties, with construction or just the land, to keep them clean and thus comply with the Regulation on the Conservation of Real Estate that requires them to be kept in good condition.
Gutiérrez Solís pointed out that said regulations also allow fines to be issued to those who do not comply with this provision, up to 80 thousand pesos, an amount that can be given if the owner is a repeat offender, he clarified.
