Businessmen and authorities from Mérida, Yucatán, met with tour operators from Guatemala, including directors of Tag Airlines, an airline of Guatemalan origin, to promote and increase tourist activity in the southern peninsula of Mexico.

Marcela Toriello, president and CEO of TagAirlines, welcomed the mission from Yucatán and assured that Mérida is one of the strategic destinations for the airline’s international operations.

Toriello added that the airline is making positive progress in the transformation of the company and the modernization of its air fleet for the benefit of its passengers. Currently, Tag Airlines has a direct Mérida-Guatemala flight, with three weekly frequencies.

The meeting had the participation of José Luis Martínez Semerena, director of Economic Development and Tourism of Mérida; from Romeo Ruiz Armento, ambassador of Mexico in Guatemala, as well as other companies in the tourism sector.

In addition to Mérida, the Yucatán Peninsula has one of the busiest airports in the country, Cancún, which, according to ASUR, recorded passenger traffic of 32.7 million. Last December, the Tulum terminal was inaugurated, with which the Federal Government seeks to increase entries and exits to the Yucatecan Peninsula.
