-Infiniti- Real Estate Project suspended in Merida, after three years of struggle

Since February 2021, residents of the Monterreal neighborhood in northern Mérida, expressed their rejection of a real estate project known as Infiniti, and four days ago, they finally obtained an injunction that grants the suspension of this construction work, which they claim will bring more problems than benefits.

The project, located on the side of Kalia Park, would feature seven apartment buildings, and a supermarket.

It was detailed that each tower would have 51 departments, in a space of 4 hectares, the above, would be raising the population density per square meter exponentially, so it would cause saturation of the roads and generate conflicts to supply the basic services to that many new residents.

-Adding more services to a place that is already saturated, will generate a very big conflict, in addition to the production of black water that will end in the subsoil and finally contaminating the water table-, said one of the protesters who asked to remain anonymous.

Colonies affected

Residents of the area say the work, which aims to build a total of 350 new apartments, would significantly affect the following uptown neighborhoods:

  • Montalban
  • Monterreal
  • Montecristo
  • Sol Campestre

The problem is that this area of the city is already saturated, which is the complaint of locals as they claim that it is a matter of common sense, and the project totally lacks the proper urban planning.

After several months of struggle, a judge issued the provisional suspension for the construction of the apartment complex.
