Agents of the Campeche Public Security Secretariat took over the facilities declaring that they would not go out to work in protest of the mistreatment, the lack of equipment, and the low salaries they earn.

Saturday, March 16th, and outside the police facilities, around 500 police officers were stationed to prevent police units from leaving or entering.

In this way, they paralyzed the police security service in the town. The dissatisfied police officers said that they would not protect the safety of the people from Campeche until their problems and demands were resolved.

They indicated that they risk their lives daily and that they not only receive mistreatment but that their salaries are “stagnant.” The dissidents demanded that the head of the Security Secretariat, Marcela Muñoz, respond promptly to their claims.

The agents also claimed that they were sent to the operation in the Kobén prison without the necessary equipment and that female police officers were exposed to the inmates, who attacked them.

Ever since Layda Sansores took office as governor, the crime index in the state has skyrocketed.
