The Puerta Abierta (open door) apostolic group made up of people from the LGBT+ community of Mérida will carry out a Viacrucis within the framework of Holy Week.
On Friday, March 22, in the Candelaria church of Mérida, at 7:00 p.m., the Inclusive Viacrucis will be held for the second consecutive year, by the apostolic group Puerta Abierta, under the spiritual guidance of the priest Raul Lugo.
The collective offers a space to encounter God for people of sexual diversity, especially for those who, due to issues of gender identity or sexual orientation, have felt separated or rejected from finding their place within the Catholic Church.
José Manuel Paredes, a member of this lay apostolic group, indicated that last year, within the framework of Holy Week, inspired by Pope Francis’ message of acceptance and mercy, this community of sexually diverse Catholics was born and consolidated, who have found a welcoming place to live and share their Christian faith, grow and be formed in the spiritual life within the Catholic Church.
He said that they have practically found their home in the Rectory of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Mérida, accompanied by the spiritual direction of Father Raúl Lugo and supported by a work team.
