The user Argenis Mena shared through his Facebook account an experience he had this Monday during a trip on the Mayan Train from Mérida, Yucatán, to Palenque, Chiapas. The story details a series of difficulties from the beginning of the trip at Teya Station.
Mena mentioned that, after facing problems related to his pet, a barely two-month-old dog, when trying to board the train, he was met with refusal from the station staff, who demanded additional documentation to allow access to the animal.
Although he had previously been informed about the requirements for traveling with pets, the station manager denied him access.
When he was about to board the train, a manager asked him for the dog’s papers, to which the young man gave a vaccination card and a certificate of good health for travel.
“He answered me, these are not, these are of no use to me, what I am asking you for are the papers of the emotional dog, I answered him, sir, it is not an emotional support pet, it is barely 2 months old, I came to her look to take it with me to where I currently live and he answers me, you can’t travel with it, only emotional support dogs are allowed and I answered sir, I had already come to ask if you can travel with pets and they emphasized to me again and again. Again, I wasn’t going to have any problem, they told me that I needed to bring my pet’s papers (license and certificate) and that it should come in a carrier,” the passenger said.
The story later describes a series of incidents during the journey, including a problem with the air conditioning on the train, which caused discomfort among passengers, including Mena’s dog.
Additionally, the prolonged wait due to a derailment at a substation and the failed attempts to fix the air conditioning problem are detailed.
Finally, Mena thanked the support received during the trip and pointed out that her pet was hospitalized due to the adverse conditions of the trip. The story concludes with the mention of the significant delay in arrival at Palenque. “It is up to you whether you still have the desire to experience your trips on the train. First and last time I travel on the Mayan Train”; concluded the social media user.
