A complaint by people hired as Morena brigade members brings to light a structure to illegally capture votes. The structure resembles a “pyramid” scam, which today is undermined because of the lack of staff.
About twenty brigade members say they were recruited, like many others, to promote the vote in favor of Morena in Mérida with the offer of a monthly payment of 7,000 pesos starting last February. Although they actually began working in late January.
However, the authorities of Morena did not comply – some got only a minimal part – and after fruitless negotiations with those who hired them, they decided to make their discontent public.
This is how these people have unveiled the illegal strategy that Morena uses to obtain data from voters, whether or not they are supporters of the 4T.
They asked for anonymity for fear of reprisals, but they declare themselves willing to file a formal complaint they are already preparing.
The Morena employees specify that they were assigned to a specific area, in Local District 4 and Federal District 6, but they affirm that the strategy is followed in all districts. To verify their allegations, they provide documents, audio recordings, videos, and messages that they received on how to fullfill their duties.
These people claim that they were contacted by a Morena ground coordinator named Cynthia Pech. Then they met Estefanía Baeza Martínez, Morena’s local representative candidate for District 4 in Merida, who confirmed that they would earn seven thousand pesos a month. The commitment was to work part-time, whether in the morning or afternoon.
The main function of the brigade members was to visit houses and conduct surveys to identify whether or not the person visited was a sympathizer of the 4T.
Their mission was to obtain voter IDs and telephone numbers of citizens whether they were Morena’s sympathizers or not.
This information was “uploaded” to a digital application called “Sirena”, managed by the party. Their daily quota was to visit 60 homes and obtain at least 25 IDs and telephone numbers.
They also had to manage and establish a “friendly house”, with a sectional representative who was offered “an economic incentive” of two thousand pesos. That representative had to attract 20 other people to the movement, and these, in turn, had to commit to doing the same with the same number. This way, the list was expected to grow exactly in the same way a pyramid scam scheme works.
The brigade members claim that the representatives of President López Obrador’s Morena party never paid them what they promised in the first place for their work, so now they have decided to go public, so people can be aware of Morena’s illegal strategy.
