On Thursday, March 21, the renown Merida chronicler Jorge Álvarez Rendón died at 77.
He was born in the City of Mérida. He completed his Bachelor’s studies at the Law School of the Autonomous University of Yucatán and a master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature at the Normal Superior National.
He was a teacher at High Schools 1 and 2 of the Autonomous University of Yucatán and Spanish at a federal high school.
Maestro Alvarez Rendon was a columnist for Diario de Yucatán for 49 years and was appointed in 1995 as a member of the Council of Chroniclers of the City of Mérida, a position he held until this day.
He received the Yucatán Medal in 2012 and the Eligio Ancona award in 2013. In 2019 he obtained the Oswaldo Baqueiro Medal for Cultural and Entertainment Journalism, among other recognitions.
