In the last few hours, a video was released showing two people attacking a doctor from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Mérida.

The doctor at the IMSS “Ignacio García Téllez” hospital, known as T1, is recovering from the injuries he suffered after being attacked by the relative of one of his patients.

In the video circulating on social networks, you can see how a man called “David” hits a doctor at the doors of said hospital. The incident would have occurred last Wednesday night, the 28th.

Regarding the case, it was found out that Doctor Alejandro Z. O. was leaving his work shift and walking towards his vehicle parked on the public road, when a person named David P. C., whose father is a patient of Doctor Alejandro, intercepted him.

This person began to complain to the health professional about the care he was providing to his parent and shouted “you are letting him die.” A moment later he began to hit him, threw him to the ground, and continued the attack, joined by a woman who is the young man’s mother and the patient’s wife.

Some people intervened to calm David down and took him away. The doctor, it was said, requested help from the police, and moments later he was admitted to the emergency area of the same hospital supported by his colleagues. There they gave him first aid.

The doctor suffered blows to several parts of his body and a probable fracture to his face, so he would continue to be hospitalized recovering from his injuries. He was also able to find out that his cell phone and wallet were stolen and one of his cards had been emptied.

It was also learned that Dr. Alejandro indicated that he would go to the corresponding authorities to file a criminal complaint regarding the events. However, until this Friday afternoon, it had not been confirmed whether he went to the corresponding authorities. The hospital, so far, has not given a position on what happened.

The IMSS stated yesterday in a statement that the emergency doctor received multidisciplinary medical attention for the injuries resulting from the attack. He noted that, although the events were recorded outside the hospital facilities, the IMSS Yucatán offered legal advice and support, however, the doctor decided to continue the legal process privately.
