Images of spider monkeys that invaded the streets and homes of this community circulate on social networks. The primates have caught the attention of the locals, because after last year they were present at the beginning of the hot period, they once again returned to “visit the town.”

It is presumed that due to the drought and the loss of their habitat, they look for food in the town’s houses.

“Perhaps there is no longer food in the mountains and the water sources have also dried up. The mango and plum season is about to start here, and there is water, which attracts them,” several Facebook users pointed out.

Last year, spider monkeys were also observed circulating through the streets of the center and neighborhoods of Dzidzantún. The fact has not gone unnoticed by tourists, who take the opportunity to take photos and videos of the animals.

“We have to take care of them so they can survive because they are just looking for a place to spend the dry season,” indicated several people on the same social network.
