On the first weekend of the Easter holidays, the increase in hotel occupancy was notable, as it was around 60%, both national and foreign tourists, even families joined, whose children participated in a championship of children’s and youth football that concluded on March 25.

Héctor Bustos Sosa, president of the Association of Hotels and Hostels, stated that, according to the data provided by his members, last Saturday and Sunday, there was an increase in occupancy, which he considered good.

However, he commented that “the good is yet to come” since it is expected that next weekend, that is, from Friday to Sunday, the arrival of tourists will increase and occupancy may reach 80%.

The hotelier ruled out reaching 100% occupancy because from experience he knows that this has never happened, so there will be rooms available in the lodging centers.

Bustos Sosa commented that you can see many tourists in the center of the city, but that does not mean that they are staying in the hotels, since they are only passing through on their way to the beaches of the neighboring state of Quintana Roo and others are They go to the ports in the east of the State.

Yes, some people decide to spend the night in the city during the week, but not in the number they expected, he said, so the hope is that, during Holy Week and Easter, that is, from Good Friday, there will be much more visitor movement.

As for restaurants, some businessmen in the sector located in the city center reported that they also observed a slight increase in sales, but that it could be a little more in the following days, taking into account that starting this week many people have decided to go on vacation. The important thing, they said, is that they are seeing better commercial movement in this holiday period than in previous years, which is why they commented that they are happy and attentive to serving tourists.
