200 agents of the Army, Air Force and National Guard arrive in Chetumal

200 elements of the Army, Air Force and National Guard arrive in the state capital of Quintana Roo in response to the recent wave of violence in that city.

Chetumal, Quintana Roo.- An operation was deployed in the city of Chetumal after several violent events were recorded in the last hours, which have increased since last week.

Given the growing insecurity in several areas of Quintana Roo, 200 members of the Army, Air Force, and National Guard arrived in the capital municipality of Othón Pompeyo Blanco in artillery vehicles, as well as an EC225 helicopter of the Mexican Air Force, to carry out operations in coordination with local authorities.

Among the most relevant cases of violence are the execution of businessman Jonathan “N”, the murder of a minor who was traveling on the motorcycle of his father who works as a municipal police officer, the arrest of several subjects from whom at least five long weapons and more than a thousand useful cartridges, and the execution of the head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and former director of the Cancún Prison, and the kidnapping of a captain of the Mexican Army, who was released hours later,

In the case of the head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and former director of the Cancún Prison, the authorities identified the victim as Fermín Cortés Burgos, who had previously received threats, allegedly for being linked to criminal groups.

The execution occurred when Cortés was driving his motorcycle on Chetumal Avenue, with Tecnológico de Veracruz Street, right next to the 25th Marine Infantry Battalion; After receiving two gunshot wounds, the victim lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with economical taxi number 804, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

After the collision, the criminals got out of the car, and using high-powered weapons, shot the man more than 25 times.

Once the attack concluded, those responsible fled the scene, firing shots at multiple points in the city, which caused the activation of the red code.

Until now, complete secrecy has been maintained regarding this case, although the authorities have deployed operations throughout the city in search of the criminals.
