The well-known Zamná restaurant in Izamal was consumed by fire early Saturday, March 6. The fire broke out at 1 in the morning and the causes of the incident are currently unknown.
The fire mobilized more than four fire units and seven State and Municipal police cars.
Municipal and state agents cordoned off the area because the flames were immense, approximately four meters high, and there were several stationary tanks in the restaurant.
In a matter of half an hour, only ashes remained of the restaurant since it was built of clay and a guano roof. The firefighters’ work lasted several hours as they remained to remove debris in anticipation of the fire reigniting. Several neighbors participated in the efforts to extinguish the fire.
