Federal and state authorities rescued 27 women victims of human trafficking in Cancun, the victims came from different Mexican states.

The National Guard rescued 27 women victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation in a clandestine bar in Cancun.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo, which also participated in the operation, stated that the women are “alleged victims of events that could constitute the crime of human trafficking in the form of prostitution and sexual exploitation.”

According to the statement, the women are Mexican and originally from Aguascalientes, Campeche, Chiapas, Colima, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz, and Yucatán.

The agents inspected the Supermanzana 100 home on Avenue 127 in the Benito Juárez municipality (Cancún), where they discovered that those responsible “kept the women providing sexual services to the clients in this place.”

The authorities did not report any arrests or suspects for the crime.

“After completing the procedure, the participating agents placed the corresponding seals to indicate that the property was insured, while the rescued women were placed under the protection of the State Attorney General’s Office, where they underwent medical and psychological examinations,” concluded the FGE.

Quintana Roo is the main tourist destination in the country, but civil organizations have warned of human trafficking that occurs in the state.

In January, the FGE rescued another 25 women victims of trafficking and found drugs during an inspection in an establishment in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, in southern Quintana Roo.
