For the 2024 hurricane season, Cancun will have an anti-cyclonic shelter that will allow pets to enter. This space is the first of its kind in Quintana Roo.
The Benito Juárez City Council detailed that this shelter is located at the Ek Balam Primary School, where there is space for 67 people and 50 dogs or cats.
On the other hand, he assured that work is being done on the culture of prevention before the hurricane season since it is very important to safeguard the lives of the people in Cancun.
The hurricane season begins in June and ends in November. For this reason, verifications are carried out in every one of the schools that are temporary shelters, which will provide accommodation, shelter, food, and medical assistance to the displaced population, either as prevention or as a consequence of the impact of the occurrence of a hydro meteorological disaster. The Benito Juárez City Council has 67 shelters, of which eight are installed in the Alfredo Vladimir Bonfil delegation and the others in the different sectors of Cancún.
