Every 5 minutes, a Mexican woman dies due to cardiovascular problems, where 80% of cases can be preventable, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Among these cardiovascular problems, acute myocardial infarction is the condition that has the highest incidence in female deaths.

This heart attack can be triggered by high blood pressure, known as “the silent disease,” because it damages blood vessels and increases the load on the heart.

This increase in blood pressure can cause narrowing of the arteries, hindering blood flow and increasing the risk of clot formation, triggering serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack.

Risk factor’s
The specialist in Clinical Cardiology at the ABC Medical Center, Alexandra Arias Mendoza, indicated that “9 out of 10 women in Mexico have more than three risk factors that can contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases.”

Risk factors include premature menopause (before age 40), smoking, overweight and obesity, alcohol consumption, as well as exposure to environmental pollution.

Recommendations
The specialist indicated that we must adopt a healthy lifestyle without smoking, maintaining a balanced diet, limiting the consumption of sugar and salt, as well as performing physical exercise of moderate intensity for at least 150 minutes per week.

In addition to these habits, she said, there should be regular monitoring of cholesterol levels.

Likewise, patients must periodically consult with a specialist for the early detection of possible cardiovascular problems.
