The Municipal President of Santa Elena, Galdino Poot Moreno, revealed that businessmen intend to build two hotels in the vicinity of Kabah, where a new museum is being built.
Given the construction of the new Puuc Archaeological Museum, located in Kabah, the municipality of Santa Elena reported that there is interest from businessmen in the opening of two new hotels that seek to join the four already existing in town.
The mayor stated that the new tourism projects will generate jobs for the inhabitants of Santa Elena.
“We are in the middle of two tourist areas, Uxmal, Kabah, the Puuc Route, we are always promoting the arrival of tourism, both local, national, and foreign. We want people to visit us and see how great Santa Elena is, for example, we have the Mummies Museum, and many attractive places to visit, as well as hotels for your stay. “We are very happy to be able to welcome them with open arms,” he said.
Galdino Poot recalled that last May the federal Ministry of Culture, through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), began work on the Puuc Archaeological Museum, in the archaeological zone of Kabah, in which relevant findings will be shown among which the trousseau of an Itzá warrior, masks of the god Chaac, offerings of jade and metals from offerings, as well as burials from the Mayan culture stand out.
Based on the project, the museum will have more than 1,800 square meters of construction in which more than 360 pieces will be held, most of them never exhibited, such as lithic elements, ceramics, obsidians, jades, and even metals made by culture. Maya.
The facility will house pieces from Uxmal, Kabah, Sayil, Labná, Xlapak, Chacmultún, and other points in the southern part of Yucatán, whose main property will be located in a Mayan house. The interviewee added that, in parallel, the municipal administration he heads maintains the Mummies Museum, located next to the church of San Mateo. Likewise, he stated that they are working in a coordinated manner with the State Government.
