As posted in The Yucatan Times in the morning of Tuesday, April 23, an intense mobilization of emergency forces was recorded in the center of Mérida, after a tourist was attacked with an ax by a man.
The incident occurred at the intersection of 61st and 60th streets, a few meters from the Mérida Cathedral, where several Municipal Police patrols arrived.

A witness commented that the tourist, about 25 years old Canadian, was walking in the area when suddenly the man, from the state of Tabasco, grabbed an ax and, without further ado, attacked her.
Another witness, who was at said intersection, mentioned that after the attack the man began to follow another tourist, but a police officer went in pursuit to prevent a second attack.The officers and the witness were at the aggressor.
Those present quickly came to help the affected person and asked for help from the emergency bodies. Moments later, paramedics arrived and took the victim to the hospital as he had suffered a wound at the level of the eyebrow. Almost two dozen police officers arrived at the scene and detained the man. After a few minutes, they opened the street again.
