The head of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism of the City of Merida, José Luis Martínez Semerena, reported that the flight from Merida to Guatemala, operated by Tag Airlines, is being successfully consolidated, so the airline is considering changing the aircraft used on this route due to the high demand of passengers.
Initially, the service began with a small plane with a capacity of 20 to 25 seats, however, due to the increasing popularity and occupancy of the flight, which averages between 85 and 90 percent, the incorporation of a larger plane with 72 seats is being planned.
The municipal official highlighted that the route has not only been well received by Guatemala passengers but has also attracted travelers from El Salvador and Colombia, reflecting the potential and importance of the air link between these regions.
He noted that the consolidation of this flight is a positive indicator for tourism and the economic development of Merida, facilitating greater connections and business opportunities between Yucatan and other countries in Central and South America.
He added that with the change of aircraft, the frequency of flights and the number of passengers are expected to continue to increase.
Martínez Semerena concluded that this initiative is part of the efforts of the City of Mérida to strengthen air connectivity and promote international tourism, positioning the city as a key destination in the region.
