A statement by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo during a rally in Los Cabos caused a stir on social networks, where some interpreted it as a criticism of the ambition of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The Morena candidate visited Baja California Sur on May 10, with former presidential candidate Gerardo Fernández Noroña, among other local politicians. Claudia Sheinbaum is considered the candidate chosen by López Obrador to succeed him.
During her speech at the event, the former head of government of Mexico City presented her proposals, including maintaining social support and giving new scholarships to women. Somewhere in his message, he mentioned that López Obrador is the best president of Mexico.
In the last minutes of her presentation, she referred to the fight undertaken by her. “We are not going to reach the Presidency like President Andrés Manuel did out of personal ambition, we come to do justice, we come so that there is well-being for the people of Mexico.”

Millones ya lo sabíamos, pero es bueno escucharlo de quien pretende ser el nuevo títere de esa ambición personal🤷🏻♂️ pic.twitter.com/gqzihH5onK
At the end of the meeting, he released a statement in which he reiterated that “we did not come because of personal ambition, but rather we came to transform the country.” “If there is something that has been understood differently, of course, that is not the case.”
The complete broadcast of the event in Los Cabos can be seen on the Morena Baja California Sur page. It was available on the Morena Sí YouTube channel, but the party removed it. During the event, Claudia Sheinbaum was interrupted several times by teachers who had been on strike for three weeks in Los Cabos and who asked for her support. Some tried to drown out the noise of the protesters with batons and applause.
