This process contemplates receiving the opinions of more than 21,000 young Yucatecans throughout May.
Mérida, Yucatán, May 19, 2024.- To continue reinforcing actions to prevent addictions among young Yucatecans, the State Government applies the second survey: “Youth and Wellbeing” of the “Juventudes Yucatán, Planet Youth” program in May.
With this action, led by the State Center for Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation (CEPREDEY), it is planned to receive the opinions of more than 21,000 young Yucatecans, until May 30. This process will be carried out in public and private schools distributed in Celestún, Chemax, Hunucmá, Kanasín, Mérida, Motul, Oxkutzcab, Peto, Progreso, Tekax, Ticul, Tizimín, Umán and Valladolid.
The fundamental purpose of this second application of the “Youth and Wellbeing” survey is to update local information and be able to make the first comparison of progress with the initial results of the diagnosis obtained 2 years ago when the first survey was carried out.
In this way, with the data obtained, the progress of the actions that have already been implemented will be known and we will also seek to propose new axes for the comprehensive development of Yucatecan adolescents.
The implementation of this survey is based on the methodology established in the addiction prevention model, Planet Youth, in collaboration with government and educational institutions, members of the school community, mothers, fathers, and guardians, who invite their daughters and sons to give consent to participate in the survey.
This survey collects information from third-grade high school students, who are asked about four fundamental environments in which they operate: family, friends, free time, and school. Through this method, we seek to identify both the protective factors perceived in the daily life of young people and the risk factors, to develop strategies focused on emotional well-being, addiction prevention, optimization of free time, and improving the school environment.
The application of the survey is carried out meticulously and carefully, following a brief, group, anonymous, and confidential procedure. This application modality has been designed to safeguard the privacy of the individual responses of each participant. Its purpose is not to detect a particular adolescent with a problem, but rather to generally know the lifestyle, preferences, beliefs, and activities of the participants. who are, of course, Yucatán teenagers.
For this reason, guardians, mothers, and fathers of minors are urged to provide their support, granting consent and authorization for their daughters and sons to participate in the survey. Your collaboration is of utmost importance to obtain more information on the realities that youth face today, which will enrich this process with the definition of the program’s lines of action and its permanence.
This strategy is part of the Yucatán Youth Program, Planet Youth, which has been implemented since 2022 and seeks to reduce the onset of substance use among young people in the state, promoting healthy environments that favor protective factors and adaptation policies. public to the results of the survey, as well as the implementation of community activities.
The results of this survey will be crucial to designing strategies according to the identified needs, to promote healthy environments and encourage community participation.
