The tourist destination maintained an average occupancy of 80% in its 45 thousand hotel rooms capacity

Cancun was among the three tourist destinations with the highest occupancy nationwide, during the first four months of the year, only surpassed by Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

According to data from the Datatur Tourist Information System, of the federal Ministry of Tourism, Cancún maintained an average occupancy of 80% in the 45 thousand rooms it has, which remains among the favorites for visitors.

The federal agency measures the 12 main tourist centers nationwide, on a weekly basis. In the case of Cancun, the highest peak was the week of March 25 to 31, when it reported 87.6%, due to the Easter holidays.

With these statistics, the destination reaffirms its tourism leadership, especially by attracting more international visitors, since there was growth in the United States, Canada and, thirdly, the national market, in addition to the arrival of other international markets such as Argentina and Colombia.

On the list, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta also reported average occupancy of 80%, being the most sought-after beach destinations. Since cities such as Aguascalientes, Puebla, Villahermosa, and Mexico City are also monitored.

Datatur also reports that Cancun leads the main routes with airplane seats scheduled for 2024, both on domestic flights, such as the Cancun-Mexico City connection, as well as on international flights with Dallas and Toronto.

The report indicates that as of May there has been a drop in occupancy, due to the drop in tourism, currently standing at 70%. The sector expects this trend to continue, at least until June.

For its part, the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat points out that the Mexican Caribbean currently maintains connectivity with 125 cities in the world, in 13 Latin American countries, 15 countries in the European region, as weel as the United States and Canada, in North America.
