More howler monkey deaths are reported; this time in Veracruz and Campeche

Semarnat indicated that there are no official figures for the howler monkeys that died, but everyone agrees that their death is due to the strong temperatures.

Following the heat wave experienced in the states of Veracruz and Campeche, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) reported that cases of dead howler monkeys were reported in the states of Campeche and Veracruz.

According to the federal agency, 157 dead howler monkeys have been detected in the states of Tabasco and Chiapas, in addition to new cases in Campeche and Veracruz.

Semarnat indicated that up to now it does not have official figures for the howler monkeys that died, but everyone agrees that their death is due to the strong temperatures experienced in most of the Mexican territory.

Due to the above, in the municipalities of Hueyapan and Catemaco, in the state of Veracruz, drinking fountains were installed to provide care for these primates, in addition to maintaining monitoring in the region.

The Government of Campeche integrated two brigades in Miguel Colorado and Felipe Carrillo Puerto to care for these animals.

Personnel from the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources and the National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality carried out a study to determine the cause of the death of these animals, so far no results have been reported.
