Thousands of people took to the streets of Mérida, Yucatán this Sunday to participate in the Pink Tide, one of the largest mobilizations in the country, after Mexico City.

Organizers counted the number of participants between 8 thousand and 10 thousand people who were part of the rally that took place at the monument to La Patria, where attendees expressed their support for the presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz.

As in various parts of the country, in Mérida citizens gathered to endorse their vote for Xóchitl Gálvez and the event was attended by candidates for various positions in the entity and political figures from the National Action and Institutional Revolutionary parties.

This concentration was also joined by the candidate for governor of Yucatán for the PAN, PRI, and Nueva Alianza alliance, Renán Barrera, and the candidate for mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón.

During his participation, Renán Barrera invited people to vote on June 2 and defend Yucatán.

“On two more Sundays we are going to celebrate freedom, and democracy, with Xóchitl, our president of Mexico, and we are going to sing from Yucatán, Long live Yucatán!, united, Yucatán wins,” he said.

For her part, Cecilia Patrón Laviada told supporters and activists that the city has been characterized by being a peaceful, participatory, and democratic society.
