Garbage in Progreso is a serious problem when it comes to combating the spread of vector-borne diseases, which is why the authorities reinforce actions to clean up illegal waste dumping areas.

With the aim of continuing to fight diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, the Progreso City Council carries out awareness-raising and waste disposal and fumigation work.

Even so, despite the intense work carried out by municipal authorities, through awareness campaigns, the issue of present garbage is worrying about this problem, since the accumulation of water in tires, plastics, household items and other materials and objects present in clandestine dumps and street corners turn the area into breeding grounds for flies that carry these diseases.

According to the Subdirectorate of Ecology, they have not given up on the fight against diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, so that scrapping campaigns have been carried out in the port police stations, fumigation work to eliminate flies, mainly in this last month, as well as work related to raising awareness about the disease and cleaning yards.

Along with this, the City Council has reinforced its actions to combat the garbage problem, achieved through cleanups, with the help of voluntary entities.
