A new attraction arrived at the port of Progreso to make the space of the International Malecón even more striking, it is a statue of “Poseidon”, the god of the seas in Greek mythology.

The attraction took the inhabitants of Progreso, as well as visitors to this port, by surprise due to its sudden placement.

So far the authorities have not provided information on the installation of the statue.

The statue, about three meters high, is located in the beach area, about five meters into the sea, and right in front of the pink basketball court that bears the name precisely of “Poseidon.”

As for the name of the field, at the time the then mayor Julián Zacarías indicated it was to refer to the trident of this Greek god, which has the power to alter or calm the waters, and “we want to show that in Progreso we can always have the waters calm,” he noted.

Regarding the construction of the court, it had an investment of 2.4 million pesos, of which 400 thousand were donated by a commercial chain of self-service stores. While the city council put in two million pesos. They built it in just two months.

The pink color of the court, the mayor said, is because for years people have identified basketball as a sport for men, and with this color, they seek to highlight that there are also opportunities for women in which there are many talents that can also be developed in any field.
