On the morning of this Sunday, May 12, operations of the Ie-Tram line from La Plancha to the Faculty of Engineering of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (Uady) began.

Along the 16.2 kilometers of this service, there are 32 stations. An estimated 40 minutes for the route, which will be carried out by the 10 12-meter Irizar brand buses.

The service will be offered from Monday to Friday from 5:00 in the morning to 10:30 at night, and for weekends the schedules are still being adjusted.

Rafael Hernández Kotasek, head of the Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY), supervised the entry into operations of this service.

“As the routes increase, people will have greater connectivity for a better transportation system,” said the official.

Likewise, he also highlighted the comfort and speed of the service that benefits from traveling in exclusive lanes, as well as the care for the environment and the safety of this modern transportation service.

Hernández Kotasek commented that, for this new line, there was no reduction in vehicular lanes or change of direction, in reality, the traffic routes were reorganized and, from there, traffic lights were placed in the area, which will allow traffic to circulate safely and easier.

In the non-exclusive lanes for the Ie-Tram, the stops on the route may be made where there is a bus stop, while in its exclusive lane, only the Ie-Tram will make stops.

This route is integrated into that of Teya and Kanasín, which will allow transfers between the different Ie-Tram lines, as long as it remains within the station. In the case of the Komchén station, a 50% discount will be applied.

Regarding this, the director of the ATY explained that a person can board the Ie-Tram at the Faculty of Engineering, arrive at La Plancha, and continue on the line that goes to Kanasín, in the end, the transportation service would represent an expense of 14 pesos.

From May 12 to 19, the La Plancha line service to the Faculty of Engineering will be free; starting Monday, May 20, information on rates will be provided for students and the public.

The closest stop that the Ie-Tram makes to the center of Mérida is in La Mejorada Park, from there, it travels to the La Plancha station.

The Mérida Anillo Periférico will have four articulated electric buses that will be incorporated in July, which will complement the service for users of the routes that go from the Periférico to Umán and Kanasín.
