This Thursday, May 9, at 6:00 p.m., the new Progreso Arena, formerly known as the Morelos Auditorium, opened its doors to the public.
As part of the inauguration of this venue, there were a couple of basketball games on the new court, in which the local team Nereo and the Quintana Roo team faced each other; as well as Las Nereidas, who will have as a rival a women’s team from Uady.
The work began in June 2023, and included an expansion of 335.84 m2 to build 4 commercial premises, which represents an increase of 34% of the construction area of what was the Morelos Auditorium.
New boxes and stands were built with the purpose of increasing the current forum by up to 50 percent.
New spaces
The space has a new cafeteria, lockers, and bathrooms for both men and women with inclusive models for people with disabilities.
The roof was rehabilitated with a new 1,287.56 m2 cover of zintro sheet. Likewise, the floorboards, boards, and the screen, which has a 4-view scoreboard, were changed, to mention some of the improvements, all with an approximate investment of 15.5 million pesos.

The court is of the highest quality and a new reinforced sheet roof was placed on the court to protect the floor, which was brought from Michigan, United States.
It turned out that the floor is very similar to those of the NBA, since the wood is Canadian maple.
In addition, the property now has new boxes that contribute to increasing the capacity, which would be up to 800 people.
