Two truck drivers lost their lives around 6 p.m., on Sunday, May 19th, after the tractor-trailer crashed and fell off the Kopomá bridge on the Mérida-Campeche highway.
The events occurred when the heavy unit was traveling towards Campeche.
When climbing the Kopomá bridge at kilometer 131, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, crashing at high speed against the retaining wall, which caused the tractor-trailer that was pulling two closed box-type trailers, to end up detaching the cabin and falling into the precipice in the middle of the two bridges.
Once it hit the ground, the unit immediately caught fire, with the two crew members inside who were trapped inside the cockpit and ended up dying engulfed in flames.
Units from the Municipal Police and the SSP Peninsular Division arrived at the scene.
They requested the presence of firefighters, who put out the flames after fighting them for several minutes.
Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office and the Semefo met to remove the charred bodies.
