Va y Ven public transport unit involved in a traffic accident on the Merida-Progreso

A spectacular accident left at least 11 injured, including a state police officer, and heavy material damage on the Mérida-Progreso highway.

The unfortunate event occurred on Tuesday, May 14th, around 8 PM, when the driver of a “Va y Ven” public transportation unit, dozed and crashed into the bed of a trailer near the exit to Xcanantún.

Due to the crash, at least a dozen passengers suffered blows and injuries.

Agents from the Ministry of Public Security arrived at the site and flagged the area to support the emergency services that arrived to provide first aid.


However, in the middle of the road operation to protect the integrity of the victims of the accident, the driver of a compact car did not notice the presence of a police officer who was directing traffic and accidentally ran him over.

The SSP police officer suffered several injuries, but nothing serious.

The place was filled with emergency vehicles to attend the events and experts who were in charge of determining the corresponding responsibilities.
