All states in the country register attacks on journalists, according to the risk map created by the Iberoamerican University.

In the risk map of attacks on journalists, physical attacks and murders are more present in Veracruz, as are Oaxaca and Guerrero. Other dangerous states for journalistic work are Tamaulipas and Quintana Roo, and Mexico City is the entity in which the most verbal attacks are documented.

“Practically in all the States of the Republic there is violence. Right now there is no area of the country that is safe for journalists,” Dr. Grisel Salazar Rebolledo, researcher at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University, tells El Sol de México. Iberoamerican University CDMX.

“Before, Mexico City was like a refuge, like a sanctuary where attacked journalists escaped and found more protection. Today there is no safe place to practice journalism, especially what has to do with digital editions,” he said. the social researcher.

Ibero conducted a survey with 500 journalists from all over the country, from which a risk map was derived that concluded that no state in the country is free of attacks on journalists.

In Veracruz there are more physical attacks and murders, just like in Oaxaca and Guerrero.

More verbal attacks are documented in CDMX. Other dangerous states for journalists and communicators are Tamaulipas and Quintana Roo.

The anonymity that social networks allow triggers a very negative dynamic that spreads false information, slander, offenses, and insults in a very inexpensive way.

And in the case of female journalists, it was learned through the Survey that they receive much more dramatic attacks, especially verbal attacks that refer to their body and sexuality. There is a different tone when women journalists are attacked.

Finally, the study determined that the State is overwhelmed in combating crime, and, of course, that increases the risk that journalists face regarding crime that is increasingly present throughout the country.
