The president of the Yucatán Pork Farmers Association, Carlos Ramayo Navarrete declared that Yucatán is in fourth place at the national level in pig production, first place in the Yucatán Peninsula and the Southeastern states.

He said that Jalisco, Sonora, Puebla, and Yucatán are the main producers of pigs in the country, although in the Yucatán Peninsula, our State occupies first place in this production, as well as in the Southeastern states where pork production is growing exponentially.

He stated that Yucatán is self-sufficient in the production of pork, the per capita consumption of pork per person in our state is 28 to 32 kilos annually, while at the national level, the consumption of this food per capita is 18 to 22 kilos; In the north of the country, more beef is consumed than pork.

He explained that the local pork industry generates 12 thousand jobs, and these workers are responsible for the supervision and care of the pigs, their feeding, vaccinations; Fortunately, for more than 40 years, Yucatan has been a state free of swine fever.

Finally, Ramayo Navarrete clarified that there is no increase in pork prices by producers, any increases that may occur in food are through pork sellers, the important thing is to keep prices affordable, so as not to affect the economy of consumers.
