Yucatan produces more than 87 thousand tons of eggs annually; placing it in the top sector in national production.

Due to the high temperatures recorded in the region, the death of at least two thousand hens has been reported in Yucatan, affecting the merchants of Campeche, who depend on the production of eggs, chicken, and hen.

The Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), places Yucatan in sixth place in the national production of high-quality eggs, generating 87 tons annually on average, as well as 132 tons of chicken.

The president of the Association of Tenants of Campeche, Eduardo Mena Lara, reported that due to the death of hens that is recorded in Yucatan due to high temperatures, prices will have a considerable increase in the next few days.

Mena Lara said that, although they lay more eggs during the hot season, high temperatures kill them, so it is necessary for farms to implement systems to regulate the temperature in the area where these animals are found.

The highest point in temperature was reached on May 9, when more than 51 degrees Celsius were recorded.
