Another blue crab is found, this time in Valladolid

A specimen of blue crab, the same as the one seen in recent days in Tizimín, was found on a property in the San Carlos neighborhood of this city.

This crustacean is not common in the ports of the eastern part of the State, so it was surprising that it appeared in this city without an explanation of its arrival.

A few days ago it was announced that a similar animal was found at one of the Va y Ven bus stops in Tizimín, which attracted attention, because the port is located about 50 kilometers from that city.

However, it caught the attention of residents of the San Carlos neighborhood that a specimen was seen inside a property, without knowing how it got to that place, considering that this city is more than 100 kilometers away from the coast.

The specimen found in Valladolid no longer had one of its arms with its respective pincers, so it is thought that a dog tore it off, but there is no certain explanation.

Agents of the Municipal Police arrived at the scene. They called an expert in wildlife rescue to explain the incident.

Veterinarian Oscar Chimal arrived at the site, rescued the crab, and took it to his veterinarian to check its health conditions. Then he will call the environmental and animal protection authorities to find out what is appropriate in the case.

Most likely, instructions will be given to return it to its habitat in some of the eastern ports, where, according to the expert, specimens are rare.

He stated that he suspects that some family went for a walk in some eastern port and brought it back and didn’t know what to do with it.

Faced with this situation, he urged people that when they go to the ports they do not extract their fauna but seek the protection of the animals and leave them in their habitat so that they can develop and reproduce naturally. Characterized by its migratory behavior towards the sea for reproductive purposes, it is a highly valued species. Unfortunately, its populations are diminished at a local and global level due to its excessive exploitation combined with the modification of the sites where it naturally lives.
