Two shipping companies operating in this port for several years with weekly ships transporting containers from different ports worldwide have already canceled their arrivals because their large ships cannot dock at the port’s specialized container terminal.
Their cancellations, as feared, are due to the consequences of the damage that occurred since the beginning of June at dock six of the Yucatán Container Terminal (TCY), which forced the suspension of all docking, loading, and unloading of ships, which are diverted to the port of Veracruz.
There, the shipments are unloaded and transported by road to Progreso.
The shipping companies that canceled their arrivals have already communicated this to their clients are Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) México S.A. de C.V, which transport 200 import containers with various cargo.
Likewise, export shipments were carried, which is now done through the port of Veracruz.
Maersk Line is a large shipping company with connections to different ports in Europe, Asia, North America, and Central and South America. At the same time, the MSC continues to connect from Kingston, Jamaica, and other ports for maritime transport.
MSC sent a statement to its customers last Thursday, the 20th, dated Mexico City, in which it reported the temporary interruption of service in the port of Progreso.
TCY Pier Six will be out of service for six months while the damage is repaired.
The Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) of Progreso reported that 20 million pesos will be invested. The ships of the shipping company Línea Peninsular Inc., which cover the Progreso Panama City, Florida route, are not large and dock at pier four, and unload with their cranes.
