Tourism authorities agreed to strengthen marketing strategies to attract more visitors from Canada.
In the first four months of the year, Canadian tourism reported the arrival of 811 thousand visitors, which means almost 60% of the total that arrived in 2023, so they see it necessary to focus on this market.
Sergio González Rubiera, president of the Mexican Association of Incoming Tourism Agencies, highlighted that in the last meeting with the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, he detailed that it was agreed to strengthen promotion to attract more Canadian tourism, especially due to a minimal drop that is being shown in the United States and national markets, which are the main issuing markets.
According to data from the Migration Policy Unit, during the first quarter of 2023, the Mexican Caribbean received 498 thousand 68 Canadian tourists. While in 2022 there were 261 thousand 333.
Canadian tourism was one of the slowest to recover due to the pandemic and the measures that the country’s government put in place to avoid a greater number of infections, forcing nationals to stay in Canada.
The hotel sector sees the promotional campaigns that are being carried out in conjunction with the CPTQ as positive, in which they see a physical presence as necessary, in addition to the fact that they are aware of the situation that occurs with the issue of available airplane seats, which will be the primary issue.
According to Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR), at the end of May, there was an increase of 449 thousand international passengers arriving to Cancun by air.
